In Butoh the dancer becomes a ‘not I’ and a vessel for transformation.
In this workshop we will find the relation to internal states and the collective ‘living organism’.
Instead of copying one another, we tune into subtle shifts in energy, tempo, and atmosphere, creating an uncanny sense of unity. We will explore resonant connectivity and threads across space/time. Then we might embody the unconscious life of the group, beyond the individual. What might it be to move with one breathe, or multiple interpretations of a butoh-fu image. In Butoh, collective movement can emerge as if the group were under a shared spell, a process of resonance and entrancement.
Butoh uses the body as a site of radical transformation, both personal and collective. The ensemble amplifies this process, creating a field where multiple transformations resonate with and alter one another. We will create a space of dream or ritual where time, space, and identity dissolve.
